Karla Romaní-Sarzi is a remarkable cellist and outstanding educator, whose artistry and passion for teaching have shaped her career on international stages. From an early age, she showed a deep love for the fine arts, particularly music and dance, and soon discovered her lifelong devotion to the cello after beginning her studies on piano. Guided and supported by her mother, philosopher Adriana Vázquez, Karla cultivated her artistic path with determination and excellence.

Karla has received intensive training and mentorship from various famous cellists, such as Irene Carrasco, Asaf Kolerstein, Helga Winold, and Lynn Harrell. Born in Mexico, Karla earned her undergraduate degree in Cello Performance at Centro Morelense de las Artes. Her talent was immediately noticed, and in 2015 she was chosen to perform a solo recital on the legendary Vatican Stradivarius Cello during the International Film Festival In-Edit in Cuernavaca, Mexico. This experience launched her career and gave her the opportunity to perform many more solo recitals, including the inaugural gallery exposition of the famous English painter Joy Laville, in Jardín Borda, Mexico.

Karla’s orchestral experience is extensive, with performances in leading ensembles such as the Chamber Orchestra Cordaris, Orquesta Sinfónica Infantil y Juvenil Silvestre Revueltas, Orquesta Sinfónica de Michoacán, and Camerata Morelense. Internationally, she debuted in the United States with the “Music in the Mountains” Orchestra in Durango, Colorado, and since 2015 she has been a regular member of the International Summer Orchestra (FOOSA), performing multiple times at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

In 2019, Karla moved to the United States to pursue graduate studies, and in 2023 she completed her Master’s degree in Cello Performance at California State University, Fresno, under the instruction of Dr. Thomas Loewenheim. During her time in Fresno, she taught piano and cello at Leo Kim’s private music school and contributed to the Youth Orchestras of Fresno as librarian, conductor’s assistant, and cello coach.

With over a decade of experience as a private instructor, Karla has developed a reputation for her patient, disciplined, and enthusiastic teaching style. She is dedicated to fostering technical excellence and artistic growth in her students, many of whom achieve a high level of performance.

Following the completion of her master’s degree, Karla was accepted into the Doctoral program in Cello Performance at the University of Oklahoma, where she currently studies with the renowned cellist and pedagogue, Dr. Jonathan Ruck. Additionally, Karla is a member of the prestigious Crouse String Quartet and performs with the versatile Romaní-Sarzi Duo alongside her husband, double bassist Antonio Sarzi.
