“Pianos in the Round” Piano Ensemble

Saturdays 1:30pm to 2:30pm

When imagining a pianist, one thinks of an alone pianist on stage. When imagining string players, a string ensemble or orchestra immediately comes to mind. Here at OCM, we embrace the more unique and challenging ideas. “Pianos in the Round” is a piano ensemble dedicated to both younger and older piano students of different skill levels. Through interesting and adventurous repertoire, piano students receive the joy of ensemble performance, inspiration through peer engagement, as well as a sense of community and belonging. Students get to study and perform in this special way, while broadening their horizons and eventually preparing for more serious chamber music performance.

  • Participating students need at least two years of private lessons studies

  • Pianists perform together in an ensemble, while learning ensemble skills, listening, effective communication, leadership and cooperation skills

    Preparatory Strings Ensemble

    Saturdays: 1:30pm-2:30pm

    Instructor: Yoo-Jung Chang

    Preparatory Strings Ensemble is available only to OCM students studying privately with an OCM private lessons teacher. The ensemble is ideal for young students between ages 5 to 10, within their first two to three years of private studies. The ensemble provides a first foray into group performance for very young students. Fundamental instrumental skills like posture, tone, intonation, rhythm are enforced while developing listening and cohesive skills. Preparatory Strings Ensemble elevates the students individual playing skills, propelling them into higher performing skills faster. The ensemble, together with the combination of private lessons and Solfege provides a solid foundation for the students first years of music study.

    Young Musicians Chamber Orchestra

    This flagship large ensemble of the Oklahoma Conservatory of Music features highly dedicated OCM string students between ages 8 and 14. Students performing in this ensemble demonstrate the ideals of excellence in performance, responsibility, accountability and leadership. The orchestra performs at In-The-Community Concerts and represents the conservatory on stages both at OCM and within the Oklahoma City area community. YMCO members also receive opportunities to perform as soloists with the ensemble, through the YMCO Soloist Competition.
